Global Warming Let's just go ahead and fight this war

I have looked at this and while there is some evidence for warming there is also evidence that suggests it isn't happening or isn't as bad as has been suggested. Al Gore did say almost ten years ago that in ten years we would all be roasting and his Nobel prize winning prediction has about as much honesty in it as any prediction by a liberal politician.

I believe that Global warming will be a net positive for mankind if it is real....

I live in Michigan, and the weather here is always weird, so it's hard for me to tell.

Keep in mind, ol' Al made a hell of a lot of money kiting his crap, as have a number of other people. That ALWAYS makes me suspicious.

We basically have had no winter here in the NYC metro area. It snowed maybe a couple of times an inch at most. Probably means nothing.

Anyway, the biggest problem with AGW might be the loss of wildlife. There should be (if there isnt already) projects underway to preserve as much DNA and cellular material from endangered (and otherwise) species for long term storage.

The idea that biodiversity will suffer from Global Warming is one of the most ludicrous ideas of the AGW scare. Take Polar bears for instance. Bears in general are among the most adaptable animals on the planet. They are omnivores and polar bears are not found exclusively in the ice field environment in fact the polar bear is at home throughout the arctic region. They will easily adapt to any changes. In fact if you look at any time in the past when the Earth warmed you will see a massive increase in diversity. This is just common sense warmer climates make better environments for life of all kinds.

I dont think it is possible right now to forsee all the consequences of AGW (both direct and indirect). The DNA "ark" or whatever they call it is a worthwhile enterprise regardless. I would rather have more information than needed than find ourselves without enough in the future.

I'm wondering what the maximum rate of carbon utilization was during the Carboniferous Era.

To get all that carbon sequestered back then, the rate of plant burial had to be pretty rapid.

I continually hear AGW/CC is a "problem" -- a "problem" that requires massive intrusive coercive government action to address, resolve, fix, etc.

In this context is "problem" a scientific term? Or is it a political term? Seems the latter.

Seems every time a scientist, or anyone for that matter, speaks of the "problem" of AGC/CC they are no longer talking science. They are no longer speaking scientifically as scientists. They are making political, economic, ethical, and moral judgements.

Climate change can be a problem. It can also be a blessing.

Earth's climate changes in radical and miraculous ways, and life is left to cling in spite of the changes or perish.

Most of the life on Earth has little choice about this. Animals store up food against scarcity. Some hibernate through long winters. Some have adapted to use the extremes of weather and climate as a defensive ploy, like Russians.

We are perhaps the only species that can actually make plans to react in a variety of ways, including the possibility of actually changing the climate around us in significant ways.

Additional tree planting, terraced hillsides, water-control projects, and other measures are all climate-centered in their operations. They are also positive actions for the most part.

Some of our actions are distinctly negative in their consequences. Preventing farmers from having access to irrigation water, because a minor species that has no obvious utility may suffer, is a kind of species-wide flagellation to no purpose.

Other actions are equally mysterious and inexplicable. The notion of deliberately increasing the costs of moving material, or providing comfort against the vagaries of weather, for the dubious purpose of benefiting unnamed and unspecified other persons in other places is particularly maddening, or perhaps simply mad.

Clearly there is a lemming instinct to self-destruction in our species. The remarkable wonder is that such a failing has not bred itself out of existence already.
