They can get the sneakers through trade arrangements with alligators.

The proper word would be band or tribe not gang.

I think that they were trying to anthropomorphize the dolphins by calling it a gang and pack might make them seem less human as well....However in my opinion calling them a gang makes them seem less human as well.
