- A US domestic flight made an emergency landing after the captain began yelling about a bomb, passengers say. The airline said a "medical situation" involving the flight captain prompted the landing in Amarillo, Texas, about three-and-a-half hours into the flight. JetBlue flight 191 from New York to Las Vegas was carrying 135 passengers when a crew member had to be locked out of the cockpit and restrained.
... Passengers recalled the confused scenes on board and said the captain had begun shouting about Afghanistan and al-Qaeda. On arrival in Las Vegas one passenger, David Gonzales, told US network ABC that he had grabbed the captain and put him in a headlock in an attempt to subdue him. Not something one could easily imagine or even guess from looking at the title.

| I've heard of great circle routes, but Amarillo seems a bit far off the NY to LV flight path. | |

| Strange. It appears that the captain snapped - but one would think that the airline pilots are selected, among other things, for high mental stability. Strange. | |

| UPDATE: http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-us-canada-17544301 - Quote :
- JetBlue pilot Clayton Osbon charged over flight chaos
The US flight captain who suffered an apparent mental breakdown during a domestic flight has been charged with interfering with cabin crew. Court documents say JetBlue's Clayton Osbon told his co-pilot "we're not going to Vegas" and started ranting. Mr Osbon began screaming about a bomb and had to be restrained by passengers about three-and-a-half hours into a flight from New York to Las Vegas. ... Earlier on Tuesday JetBlue said Mr Osbon had been suspended. The airline's chief executive David Barger told NBC News that there was nothing in Mr Osbon's records suggesting he could be a risk. "I've known the captain personally for a long period of time and there's been no indication of this at all," Mr Barger said. Mr Osbon is currently at a medical facility. Well, if he is in mental breakdown, then charging him is a bit hasty and less than congruent. It would be more seemly to wait for the results of the medical evaluation, and to proceed only then.
